Thanksgiving, Movies, and Television

Thanksgiving
...was very nice. I enjoyed spending time with my two loves, Hannah and Curtis, and getting to know Luke more. Our big dysfunctional family made it to my home late in the afternoon for the dessert portion of the day. It was a very calm, enjoyable visit. The only two missing were the recently married soon-to-be Captains Mr. and Mrs. Adams. There were no incidents, no kids arguing, no tempers flaring...at least none of which I am aware. If there were, please don't tell me and just let me operate on the belief that we all behaved ourselves and had a good time.

Movie Review
Watched X-Men III: The Last Stand on DVD. My review: I fell asleep in the middle of it. Either I was really wiped out or it just wasn't engaging enough.

Back to Babel
My reaction was one of sadness. The movie illustrates the sadness and tragedy that result when people fail to communicate with one another--either because they just don't or because they are unable to express themselves in a meaningful way.

The etymology of the name Babel in the Hebrew association means "to confuse or confound." Further, the story of the Tower of Babel in Genesis could provide some background of sorts to the theme of this movie. I'm too lazy to summarize it again here and I think the Wikipedia site does a fine job with it.

TV
Is anybody else really tired of implausible plot lines (Prison Break), recycled stories (ER), and predictable dialogue (everything else)? Boston Legal used to be a smart show...what the heck happened? It has just gotten ridiculous. I think the most important message it is sending lately is that "You, too, can engage in sexual harassment and never suffer the consequences...as long as you're a lawyer!" Sometimes I just sit and vegetate simply because I'm too wiped out to do anything else. As a result, I find myself watching stupid TV shows, because nothing intelligent is on.

Curtis and I happened to catch White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye on WGN Saturday afternoon. Curtis commented that the banter between Crosby and Kaye was "really good dialogue." He's right. We weren't being spoon fed--we had to pay attention and think about what was being said. Figurative language was even used and none of it was predictable! (gasp) It's a great movie which, of course, ends with a rendition of the song White Christmas. After investing nearly 2 1/2 hours in watching the movie, the phone rang. I missed the beginning of the song. The song, of course, is the big payoff. I'll have to force myself to watch it again so I can have that moment back.

Tragic News
Pamela and Kid have both filed for divorce. Didn't see that coming. I am nearly as devastated by this break up as I was by the K-Fed/Brittany demise.

Take a Little Fun Break
Try a silly copter game. Courtesy of Sharon Adams. (Sharon is my mom's bud from high school who coincidentally married an Adams, too.)

Christine, your cynicism appalls me. How could you believe that Pamela and Kid Rock would not last? I mean they had how many weddings and celebrated their nuptials for how long? I really thought they would make it. Okay, not really. I know it was heartbreaking to hear. I mean, if those crazy kids couldn't make it, do any of us ever have a chance?

Christine! You must go see Borat! We cried from laughing so hard, and at one point in the movie I was howling at Andrew, because he wasn't even laughing anymore, but rather gasping and coughing from laughing. He took a big swig of Coke and started laughing again. It was great! Thanksgiving sounded great!

Kristi,

Beat ya to it!! I saw it on the 2nd. (I refer you to my 11/4 post in which I comment that it's the kind of movie that makes you feel bad about yourself in the morning.) I did think of Andrew while I was watching it. Yes, I laughed quite a bit.

Regarding the Kid Rock And Pamela issue...I am so upset. He has a nice chunk of farm in Seymour (you know, on the Southside) and didn't even come by for breakup advice. I so torn but I think I will make him a nice big chocolate pie and wear my two-piece and pay him a little visit...you know, so he has a body...I mean shoulder to lean on. lol
