Every July, I look at the calendar about this time and wonder, in amazement, how the month could have passed so quickly. Every July.

Oh, Ben Franklin
While looking at a $100 bill today, it struck me that Ben Franklin looks like quite the smug S.O.B. I then studied other drawings and representations of Ben. Same reaction. Smug Smuggety Smug Smuggerton. Maybe I'd be smug, too, if I accomplished what he did. Maybe I'm being too harsh.

Even if it's a Cupcake
A new cupcake store (cupcake bakery, if you will) opened here recently.
"What a novel idea for a specialty bakery," you say.
"Perhaps," I say. "But they must deliver on the promise of 'delicious'."
In case you hadn't heard, I love cake. What kind? Cake. Naturally, I had to check out this place. My mission today was food-critic-esque.
What better way to get my cake fix than with just a little cupcake for $2.25? The purpose of just one cupcake is two-fold: 1-portion control and 2-portion control, because if there is a whole cake in the house, I will demolish it...quickly. Many a cake-deprived family member can attest to this. The allure of this place is talk of its tantalizing butter cream frosting and delicious moist cake. Such delights as double chocolate, mint chocolate butter cream frosting, chocolate butter cream frosting on golden yellow cake, etc. How could one resist?
Bottom line: the cake part really is delicious--very moist and tasty. The frosting part--not so much. I was disappointed. Not very buttery and not very creamy and I could feel the sugar granules on my tongue. Great idea for a specialty shop, however. Wish I'd thought of it...it's actually a sweet little coffee shop where you can have your cake and coffee, too. But they also do big orders (in advance, of course), so would be great for birthday parties and other events.
I know that some of you are thinking, "There is no way she tried just one cupcake." You would be correct. It is vitally important when critiquing something as important as cake that you evaluate the options. And so I did. I thought I would save you the trouble. After all, I know cake. Even it it's a cupcake.
